Chiropractic Care Offers Back Pain Relief

|2009-09-06|  Question: My friend sees a chiropractor every few weeks and she says that she feels relief from her back pain. Do you recommend chiropractic treatments for those suffering from back pain?

Answer: Most people experience back pain during their lifetime. This pain can range from mild and short lived, to severe and long term. Over 80% of back pain will get better within a month with no treatment.

Persistent or severe lower back pain requires a medical evaluation. Seek advice from your primary care physician to discuss testing and treatment. Not every patient requires invasive care, and some patients benefit from chiropractic treatment.

Altered spinal function may be caused by abnormal movement in the joints irritating spinalnerves by direct pressure or inflammation. This irritation may cause muscle spasms, headaches, pain, and numbness or tingling, especially in the arms, hands or legs. Chiropractic care often restores normal joint movement and relieves the mechanical stress put on nerves. A new study even suggests that chiropractic care, specifically neck andspine adjustments, may indeed lower blood pressure. For details, ask your primary care physician.
