Dr. Svetlana Blitshteyn, Neurologist, Joins the Brain and Spine Center

|2009-07-08|  Dr. Svetlana Blitshteyn is joining the multidisciplinary medical staff of the Brain and Spine Center on July 17, 2009. Dr. Blitshteyn specializes in general neurology, headache medicine and autonomic disorders. Her practice will include, but will not be limited to the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Her neurologic exam may include examination of the nerves of the head and neck; muscle strength and movement; balance, ambulation, and reflexes; and sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities.

Dr. Blitshteyn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, summa cum laude, from the University at Buffalo, where she was the valedictorian of her graduating class, and she received her Medical Doctor degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. She then completed her residency training in neurology at Mayo Clinic, where she became interested in headache medicine, autonomic disorders and women’s health. Her research on hormone replacement therapy and meningioma received national recognition and research awards. She was also the recipient of the Merck US Health Award from the American Headache Society.

Dr. Blitshteyn is serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and is currently leading a research project investigating Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Headache Society and American Autonomic Society.
